Aluminum Foil

Our Aluminum foil used during chemical services is taken to a local scrap yard where it will be melted down and turn back into sheet metal. Taking your aluminum to a local scrap yard is not only environmentally friendly but also economically beneficial. By recycling aluminum, you help reduce energy consumption, conserve natural resources, and support local recycling businesses, contributing to job creation and income generation. Recycling aluminum prevents it from filling up landfills, conserving valuable space and minimizing environmental impact. Plastics #1, #2, and #5

In our salon, common items made of plastics with resin codes 1 (PET), 2 (HDPE), and 5 (PP) include shampoo and conditioner bottles (PET), salon chair components (HDPE), and product dispensers and brush handles (PP). These plastics, when brought to Fertile Ground in OKC, undergo a meticulous recycling process where the plastics are sorted, cleaned, and transformed into recyclable materials. PET bottles, often used for hair care products and beverages, are repurposed into new plastic products. HDPE, found in salon chair components and certain packaging, is recycled to create durable items. Polypropylene (PP), commonly used for dispensers and brush handles, is also repurposed into new products. These items are collected and undergo a unique process where they are transformed into ash. This ash, rich in valuable minerals, is then incorporated into asphalt, contributing to the construction of roads. Hair

At Sustain Salon, we take pride in our commitment to sustainability, and one of our eco-friendly practices is composting all hair clippings in collaboration with Fertile Ground. Instead of sending these clippings to landfills, they are collected and transformed into nutrient-rich compost. Fertile Ground uses a meticulous composting process where hair clippings break down naturally, contributing essential organic matter to the soil. PPE

Our commitment to sustainability extends to the responsible management of PPE waste, including gloves and masks. Once collected, our PPE waste undergoes a meticulous process in collaboration with our waste recovery partner, Green Circle Salons. Boxes are logged, weighed, and assessed before being transported to Green Circle Salons. The waste is sterilized, sorted, and prepared by material type. Unpelletized materials are recycled or converted into clean energy (W2E), while pellets are transformed into new non-woven fabric or molded into hard plastics. Fabric undergoes a unique process, either being liquified and pelletized or shredded for repurposing. This comprehensive approach ensures that our salon, in partnership with Green Circle Salons, actively contributes to minimizing the environmental impact of PPE waste, aligning with our dedication to sustainable beauty practices.
